Green Comfort: How HVAC Contractors Help With Energy Efficiency

Good day. My name is Darryl and I work as a government researcher for the energy sector. I prepare reports which suggest ways that energy can be conserved and made cheaper. One area that is particularly under the spotlight is the effect of heating, ventilation and cooling systems on the environment. Whilst preparing my latest research report, I have been amazed by the energy efficiency that can be gained by installing the right HVAC systems. I even contacted professional HVAC contractors to upgrade, maintain and repair the systems in my own home because I learnt that older systems can use more energy without regular checks. I'm sure that there are others like me who aren't aware of the importance of choosing the right HVAC system. I hope to share a little of what I have learnt in my blog and help spread awareness. Thank you for your time.

Air conditioning is one of those things that many homeowners take for granted until they discover that their air conditioning equipment has stopped working properly or has gone completely silent. Indeed, many air conditioning repairs are usually a result of poor air conditioning maintenance or failure to operate air conditioners properly. Keeping a close eye on your residential air conditioner can help you identify and fix potential and existing problems before they disrupt your home's indoor comfort.

Here are some common signs you may need air conditioning repair.

Decreasing Comfort

Although some air conditioning equipment provides both cooling and heating service, standard types of air conditioners are primarily designed to help to cool the interiors of a building. If your air conditioning unit doesn't achieve the desired indoor temperatures despite optimally setting your thermostat during summer, it is likely that the unit is faulty.

The lack of comfortable temperatures could be because your air conditioner is blowing hot air. Some of the typical reasons that this happens are that the equipment is low on refrigerant, there are dirty coils or there is a clogged air filter.

The best way to find out the exact cause of the problem is to ask an HVAC technician to take a look at your equipment.

Soaring Energy Bills

Operating faulty air conditioners is one of the common reasons why air conditioning costs hit the ceiling. This is because an air conditioning system that's not working correctly will run harder than it should to achieve the desired indoor temperatures. The strain can increase air conditioner electricity usage and costs but also result in complete system failure.

Most modern air conditioners are designed to run quietly. If you hear your unit and it sounds like it's running too hard, you may need to ask an air conditioner repair person to check it out immediately.

Burning Smell

Most air conditioners run on electricity. If you notice a burning smell coming from your air conditioning unit, it is likely that you have an electrical fault that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. It is advisable to turn off the power and call an HVAC technician.

Sweet Chemical Smell

If you notice a sweet, chemical scent coming from your air conditioner, you're probably losing refrigerant. This is the chemical that absorbs heat from the air inside your home in order to provide you with cool air. Your cooling system won't work effectively when it is leaking refrigerant. So, you should contact an HVAC professional posthaste.

If you notice one or more of these signs or suspect that your air conditioner is faulty, don't hesitate to seek out an HVAC diagnostic repair expert.
